Streets Of Rage Wiki

Y Tower is the ninth stage from Streets of Rage 4. It's the base of business and operations or the Y Corporation, founded by Mr. Y and Ms. Y following the death of their father, Mr. X. The tower completely eclipses any other building in the city, being a testament of the Y Twins finantial power.

Story[]

After the heroes defeat Beyo and Riha in the storage floor of the art gallery, the group destroys the brick wall that connects to the basement of the Y Tower, where lies the Y Spa.

Enemy List[]

On higher difficulties, enemy density is higher and other variants may appear.

Overview[]

The Y Spa & Locker Room[]

After the cutscene from Stage 8 plays, where the heroes break through the wall at the storage room of the Art Gallery following the defeat of Beyo & Riha, the player starts Stage 9 invading the Y Tower through the Y Spa' sauna room, localized in the -3 Floor of the building. The floor of sauna is slippery, and player characters will slide through it when moving and attacking due to low traction.

The player will face Donovan, Altet and B.T. at the start, as well Dylan and Kevin a bit further. Francis, Raven and Condor will eventually appear, which are dangerous in the slippery floor. It is important to not be in the same axis as them to avoid their jumping attacks. A broom can be found before moving to the next area, which is a powerful weapon capable to stunning opponents.

Getting past the sauna area, the player enters a locker room, where Dokujas will appear. After defeating them, Raven and Condor appear. The final wave consists of two Goros and two Condors (which will be replaced by Pheasants on Mania and Mania+). Past the locker room, a corridor leads to the elevator to the last floor of the tower, a short scene plays where Gold and two Silvers appear from the elevator.

Retro Mini-Boss: Bongo (Mania+ only)[]

If playing on Mania+, a cursed arcade cabinet will be located at the top right side of the screen before entering the elevator. Destroying it will spawn Bongo. It's strongly recommended to only break it after defeating all but one enemy (preferably one of the Golds), as Bongo's fire breathing attack grants him super armor through the whole duration.

The Elevator[]

As soon the player enters the elevator, it starts going up, towards the top floor of the tower. The player can break the glasses at the sides of the elevators by repeatedely throwing enemies at them; upon shattered, enemies can be thrown outside, instantly killing them. If the player falls instead, they lose a small portion of health.

A gauntlet of enemies composed of five waves will start:

  • First wave consists of several Golds and Silvers.
  • Second wave consists of several R. Signal and Donovan & Altet armed with pipes.
  • Third wave consists of three Goros. Players can grab and hold them near the edges of elevators after breaking the glasses; Goros will quickly break off and jump backwards, falling to their deaths.
  • Fourth wave consists of several Garnets, Diamonds, Rubies, Ravens and Condors.
  • Fifth wave consists of four Big Ben and one Gourmand.
Possessed Max

Boss Fight: Max[]

Main article: Max Thunder#As a Boss

After the player defeats all waves at the elevator, a short cutscene plays, where a mind-controlled Max attacks the player. He has constant super armor, and can only be knocked down through Star Moves.

Once Max reaches 50% health, he'll enter his second phase, where his Thunder Tackle is used in three times in a row, and his Spinning Knuckle Bomb lasts for several seconds. When playing on higher difficulties and/or multiplayer, Golds and Silvers will appear to provide backup. On Mania+, two Lieutenant will appear instead.

Trivia[]

  • "Maximum", Max's boss theme, was composed by Scattle.
  • The whole stage is meant to be a homage to Stage 8 of Streets of Rage 2.
  • A wall engraving depicting Mr. X, based on his illustration for the opening of Streets of Rage 2, can be seen right before entering the elevator.
  • Concept art for the boss arena where the player fights Max originally had the "ropes" of the ring electrified. This was later adopted in the ring arenas for Survival Mode.
  • During the boss fight against Max, at the top floor, caricatures of the developers can be seen among the crowd watching the fight, among them Beausoleil Samson-Guillemette, Cyrille Lagarigue and Jordi Asensio.
  • Musician Childish Gambino can be seen in the back when you are fighting against Max
