Mr. Y (Mr.Yミスターワイ Misutā Wai) is one of the main villains from Streets of Rage 4. He is the son of Mr. X and the twin brother of Ms. Y, and one of the leaders of the new Y Syndicate organization.

Appearance[]

Mr. Y is a young Caucasian man with fair skin and Dark Sandy Blonde hair. He wore black pants and shoes, a grey shirt with a black tie and a long white coat. He's armed with an Uzi.

Personality[]

Similarly to his father, he is ambitious, confident, cunning and knows how to use his vast wealth to manipulate others. However, due to his young age, he is prone to throw tantrums when things don't go his way.

According to Shiva, since losing their father and unnamed mother, Mr. Y and his sister developed an obsession to control others, be it through money, power, fear or dominance.

Story[]

Along with his identical twin sister, the two took over the Syndicate Crime Organization after Mr. X's death, seeking to slowly rebuild their father's criminal empire over the long Ten Years Later. After doing secret experiments, the twins created a device to mind control people through music, and began organizing the new Y Syndicate to take over Wood Oak City.

Mr. Y is the most active in the story, first appearing a the cutscene after the heroes escape their cell in the police precinct and defeat the Commissioner. He attempts to bribe the heroes into joining the Syndicate, but guns them down when they refuse his offer. He appears again after the heroes defeat Estel a second time at the skytrain, using a rocket launcher to shoot down the train, despite it being full of civilians.

He is next seen again alongside his sister, Ms. Y, in Y Tower, where they use their mind control music to force Max Thunder to fight against his old friends. However, Max is defeated, and then Estel raids Y Tower, destroying the speakers playing the mind control music. Mr. Y stops his sister from fighting the heroes right there by reminding her they have a concert to get to. Both escape in a helicopter.

After the heroes disrupt the concert, Mr. Y gets on a plane to escape to their secret hideout, the Y Island, but the plane is boarded by the heroes. Mr. Y engages them in battle but is defeated. However, instead of surrendering, he jumps out of the plane, shooting the controls as he does so, and forces the plane to crash-land on the Y Island.

He's last seen on the roof of the Y Island Castle Fortress, where he fights alongside Ms. Y in a last stand against the heroes, employing their Y Mecha Throne. However, they are defeated and placed under arrest by Adam Hunter.

Boss Fights[]

Mr. Y is fought twice, first on Stage 11 and then on Stage 12, alongside his sister. As with all bosses, he'll always have invincibility frames when getting up from a knockdown, but will have constant super armor while moving around, until finishing an attack. Similarly to his father, he'll sometimes taunt the player by laughing, usually after knocking the player down with an attack.

Stage 11[]

The fight takes place in the cramped space of the cockpit after the player reaches the end of the airplane. He's very mobile and will circle the player trying to avoid them and looking for a chance to attack. On harder difficulties and on co-op, Garnet and her variants will appear over the course of the fight; on Mania+, his variants, Mr. What and Mr. Whatever, will also appear.

During the first phase, he has a couple of moves:

  • Machine Gun: Mr. Y charges for a bit and fires his Uzi forward from a distance, similarly to what Mr. X does in previous titles. He has super armor while charging and shooting. He'll always align with the player in the X axis before firing his gun.
  • Dodge Roll: Mr. Y lacks close range melee attacks like his father, and will instead roll around to avoid attacks. He has invincibility frames while rolling. This is usually used upon getting up.
  • Cackle: Mr. Y mockingly laughs at the player, much like his father did. He has super armor while doing so.

Once Mr. Y loses 50% health, he'll enter phase two, which upgrades some of his moves and grant him new ones:

  • Machine Gun Volley: much like Mr. X in previous, he now shoots his Uzi while turning around, hitting the player on the Y axis as well. He has super armor while charging and shooting. He'll usually move to the top side of the screen before using the attack.
  • Rocket Launcher: Mr. Y rolls backwards, kneels down and pulls a rocket launcher, firing at the player. The missile is aimed directly at the player, tracking them diagonally. On higher difficulties, he can sometimes use this attack it twice in a row, rolling backwards again before shooting a second time.
  • Carpet Bomb: Mr. Y performs a high jump to one the sides of the room, then jump high to the other side while dropping three grenades. It is possible for players to pick up the grenades and throw them back at him. He has super armor while charging and shooting.

Stage 12[]

Mr. Y is fought again at the end of last stage, in a dual boss fight alongside his sister. He uses all his moves from phase 1 and phase 2, and is also more aggressive.

Once either of them lose 70% of health, that twin will jump in the background and return in the Y Mecha Throne and regain full health for the final boss fight. If the twin in Y Mecha is defeated first, the other twin will jump into the mecha to continue the fight.

Strategy[]

Mr. Y is a slippery opponent that will avoid direct conflict. In the first fight the player can reach him more easily due to the smaller arena, but it becomes difficult in the second boss fight since his sister joins in.

The player can avoid his Machine Gun attack by staying very close to him while attacking, which will make the bullets pass through as long the player character's hitbox is not near his arm. His Rocket Launcher can be easily avoided, by jumping or moving up or down towards him, since the missile moves slowly. His grenades can be picked up and used against him; however care should be taken as they detonate fast.

When fought alongside Ms. Y in the final battle, the player should ideally hit both at the same time, as the other twin will flank the player. Dispatching Mr. Y first is recommended since his projectiles can be difficult to deal when fighting Ms. Y.

Variants[]

Mr. Y has two variants, which have less health than him (but both have the same health themselves). These appear exclusively in Mania+ and Survival Mode.

  • Mr. What, with a black coat and hair, fights using all the moves from second phase Mr. Y, save for his Machine Gun Volley. His Carpet Bomb now drops four grenades instead of three. He won't roll backwards to use his Rocket Launcher, but takes a bit longer to fire it. He also moves much faster than Mr. Y.
  • Mr. Whatever, with a pink coat and blonde hair, fights using all the moves from second phase Mr. Y. Both his Carpet Bomb and Rocket Launcher are now used twice in a row.
