Y Mecha Throne is the final boss from Streets of Rage 4. It is a huge four-legged robot owned by the Y twins.

History[]

The Y Mecha Throne was used in the final battle against Axel Stone and his gang by Mr. Y and Ms. Y. It was destroyed after the Y twins were defeated.

Boss Fight[]

When either Mr. Y or Ms. Y's health has been depleted by 65%, the battle will halt, with said twin jumping on the edge, emerging piloting the mecha. On Mania+, Fuubo and Zeebo will also spawn alongside the mecha.

The Y Mecha has massive hitboxes, being able to damage the player from long distances. It employs the following attacks:

  • X Slash: the mecha slashes the ground with one of its arms diagonally, then with the other arm in the opposite direction, forming a "X" pattern on the floor.
  • Horizontal Sweep: the mecha will sink one of its claws to one of the sides of the arena, and furiously drag it to the other side.
  • Triple Slam: the mecha will claw the ground three times in the Y Axis.

Once the mech's health is reduced to 50%, it will become more aggressive, and also use:

  • Frenzied Slams: the mecha will furiously claw the ground randomly, up to six times.

If the mech is defeated first, the other twin will attempt to pilot it. The mech will not stop moving if the first pilot is defeated during an attack.

Strategy[]

The Y Mecha is fundamentally easy to defeat since its attacks are slow and very telegraphed. Paying attention to its movements and reacting accordingly can make the fight very easy and safe. Damaging both claws at the same time inflicts cumulative damage. This makes the Mecha particularly easier to defeat when playing co-op.

Ideally, the player should save all Power Stars for this fight, as the mecha can be easily dealt with through Star Moves; characters from the first Streets of Rage and Estel can deal massive damage to the mecha with their Call Police / Tactical Support Star Moves (being even able to one-shot the mecha if both claws take damage at the same time on difficulties up to Hardest). Streets of Rage 4 Shiva's Spirit Dance can also obliterate the Y Mecha if the player has 3 or more charges of it and use them all at once.

The true danger of facing the mecha lies in dealing with the other twin simultaneously, and, in case of Mania+, also having to fight Fuubo and Zeebo. Ideally, the player should defeat Mr. Y first, as his projectiles can be a nuisance when fighting the mecha. The player can stay at safety by fighting the other twin at the bottom sides of the screen; none of the attacks of the mecha can reach the player (except for Horizontal Sweep, if the player is more to the middle of the stage).

On Mania+, the player is actually put at an advantage if they manage to dispatch Fuubo and Zeebo earlier, as their Poison and Fire Swords, respectively can be used by the player to deal massive damage to the Y Mecha and the other twin attacking on foot.

Trivia[]

  • When fighting the Y Mecha Throne on Story / Arcade mode with the classic soundtrack, the music that plays is Shiva's boss theme song from Streets of Rage 2, "Max Man".
  • The Y Mecha is immune to toxic damage, as attacking it with the Poison Sword dropped by Fuubo on Mania+ won't inflict the damage-over-time effect on the mech.
