Dylan is an enemy introduced in Streets of Rage 4. He's a thug from the new Y Syndicate who fights defensively and specializes in kick attacks. He first appears on Stage 1.

Overview[]

Dylan is a shirtless punk wearing a bandanna and metal boots. He keeps his hands on his pockets all the time, and accordingly he fights using a straight kick (that pushes anyone back), and a headbutt. He can also counter a jumping player with a roundhouse kick, in a similar fashion to Donovan's uppercut.

They are among the common punks (appearing in all levels but 4, 8, 10, and 12) such as Signal, but less common than Galsia and Donovan.

Like Signal, they tend to play more defensively, and will squat before attacking (though this will sometimes be used as a feint). They can be very dangerous in large groups.

Dylan first appears on the second half of Stage 1, alongside Galsia, Signal and Donovan.

Variants[]

Dylan has three variants, each having increased health and some differences:

  • Kevin, with yellow pants and blue bandanna, simply has more health than Dylan; their standard attacks are the same.
  • Francis, with green pants and yellow bandanna, lacks the anti-air kick and straight kick that Dylan and Kevin have, instead using triple flying kick attack that flies forwards quite far. Much like his other counterparts, he'll squat down to signal his attack. If knocked down, he'll often use the headbutt if the player is right next to him when he stands up.
  • Brandon, with a pink color scheme, has the same attack pattern as Francis and a larger healthbar. He only appears in stage 11, where even then, only two exist on Normal Difficulty.

Move List[]

  • Headbutt: used by all variants. A quick headbutt to briefly flinches the player. Francis and Brandon will only use it when getting up next to the player.
  • Straight Kick: used by Dylan and Kevin. A slow kick that pushes the player away.
  • Rising Kick: used by Dylan and Kevin. A quick kick upwards used to intercept aerial attacks.
  • Flying Kick: used by Francis and Brandon. They'll squat for a moment and unleash a flurry of kicks that cover a long distance forward. Can hit up to 3 times. The hitbox and priority is very high.

Strategy[]

Against Dylan and Kevin, the player should avoid using aerial attacks in general, as they'll counter with their anti-air kick; this includes Blitz Attacks that act as jump attacks, such as Blaze's Hishousouzan or Cherry's Flying Knee. Attacking them directly on the ground is the most effective way. On higher difficulties, especially on Mania and Mania+, they'll read the player's input to actively avoid direct contact. The best way to deal with them is to actually turn the character's back to them, which causes them to approach.

Against Francis and Brandon, care should be taken about their flying kick attack; strafing up or down to avoid his attack is more effective than trying to intercept it, and then punish when they land. In some stages it is possible to lure them to attack the player behind a ledge, which will cause them to fall into it after they perform the flying kick. Very few attacks can challenge this flying kick, but Blitz and Special Attacks are useful as they have invincibility frames.

Trivia[]

  • His bandanna is reminiscent of Vice/Zack from the Streets of Rage 3.
  • His look, and stance where he puts his hands inside his pockets bears a resemblance to Professional Wrestler and current AEW employee Orange Cassidy.
  • His original concept arts depicted him as a stereotypical Japanese delinquent (banchō) sporting a pompadour, even sporting a similar idle pose.
    • This explains his rather youthful appearance compared most other enemies (shared with Victoria).
