DJ K-Washi is the boss character of Stage 10 in Streets of Rage 4.
Overview[]
He is a tall, long-haired man wearing a futuristic suit, with his face fully covered by a helmet. His battle takes place at his own concert, which the Y Syndicate was using to spread their mind-controlling music to the public masses. It is unknown whether K-Washi was an ally of the Y Syndicate or if he was being mind controlled himself.
Boss Fight[]
DJ K-Washi is the boss of Stage 10. He begins the battle by levitating, gaining a force-field and then levitating to the right side of the screen, proceeding to use one of three attacks.
- Green Wave: K-Washi glows green before firing two green, disc lasers that hover across the ground in a wave pattern.
- Blue Bolt: After glowing blue, K-Washi fires two small, blue fireballs that simply fly forward.
- Red Bolt: K-Washi glows red, winds up for a second and then unleashes a single large, quickly moving red fireball that deals high damage. He always uses this attack last in his cycle, and then idles for a few seconds before beginning a new one if his shield is not destroyed.
The DJ can only be damaged once his force field is broken, which will leave him stunned for around 4.5 seconds. After recovering from a knockdown (or if left alone while stunned), K-Washi will once again begin levitating, restore his force field, and the cycle will repeat. Enemies Iron and R. Signal will spawn to give the DJ backup. At around 50% HP, K-Washi begins his second phase. He gets a new attack and upgraded attack.
- Yellow Wave: K-Washi glows yellow and then fires a single yellow disc laser on the ground. It is larger than the Green Waves and will home in on the player, but will move significantly slower, as well pausing for a set duration.
- Red Megabolt: The DJ glows red and charges up for a longer time, and then fires an even bigger red fireball. He always uses this attack last in his cycle, and then idles for a few seconds before beginning a new one if his shield is not destroyed.
Strategy[]
K-Washi isn't too difficult as his attacks are telegraphed. His Green Wave attack can be jumped over, while the Blue and Red Bolts can be dodged by moving vertically in the Y Axis (especially the latter due to its long charge up time). The player can attack him from behind by hugging the wall in order to avoid most of his attacks. Care should be taken to avoid knocking him down instantly after breaking the force field, since he'll regenerate it as soon getting up; throwing him also isn't the best unless the player can get a good combo from it. Using off-the-ground attacks, juggles and wall bounces are useful to deal as much damage as possible before he gets up.
The player can actually deal damage to K-Washi while his force field is regenerating; any damage dealt to K-Washi until his force field is fully up will be inflicted to his healthbar instead.
When Iron and R. Signal spawn, dispatching them should be a priority as K-Washi can capitalize on the player. The Yellow Wave is his most problematic move, since it's a homing attack, but the damage dealt isn't very high; this move can be avoided by timing a jump.
Variants[]
DJ K-Washi has two variants, which have less values of health and force field than K-Washi. Both have the same amount of health and force field. These appear exclusively in Mania+ and Survival Mode.
- DJ K-Zushi, wearing a yellow suit and with green hair, only attacks with Blue Bolts, but fires 6 of them, while moving slightly through the Y Axis between shots. Unlike K-Washi, he'll actually turn away towards the player if they jump over while he's firing his Blue Bolts. In addition, he has a 10 second cooldown for using Blue Bolt.
- DJ K-Nashi, wearing a red suit and with white hair, only attacks with the Yellow Wave, which has a 10 second cooldown regardless of hitting the player or not.

Trivia[]
- DJ K-Washi is heavily based on Motohiro Kawashima, composer for the Streets of Rage series.
- In early concept arts his name is shown as "KawasHiro", which implies that initially he was supposed to reference both Motohiro Kawashima and Yuzo Koshiro.
- One of K-Washi's concept arts has a color scheme very reminiscent of Sonic the Hedgehog, with a blue suit and red boots.
