Streets Of Rage Wiki

Chinatown is the sixth stage from Streets of Rage 4. The ethnic enclave for Chinese residents, filled with many stores and other types of business. Towering over the small business district resides a huge dojo, led by the so called "Grandmaster of Chinatown".

Story[]

After defeating Barbon, the current leader of the oppressive biker gang, The Red Demons, and owner of the Bar of the Rising Sun, the group hijacks two motorcycles from the gang, and follow Diva's lead to find the Grandmaster of Chinatown.

Enemy List[]

On higher difficulties, enemy density is higher and other variants may appear.

Overview[]

Arriving at Chinatown[]

The player will arrive in the motorcycles stolen after defeating Barbon in the previous stage. The vehicles can be destroyed, which will contain bonus points items. A bit ahead, a breakable box contains a boomerang, and several Galsias and B.T.s will appear, followed by a Altet carrying a katana, as well various Francis, showing from behind. Continuing further, Altet and Donovans will be near boxes and a food stand, which all can be destroyed for items; one of the boxes will have a sai. More Galsias will appear, followed by some Ravens, and once defeated, Condors will appear from the left and more Ravens from the right.

A bit further ahead, the player will see a Condor. Once approaching, a Raven will fall from the sky. Continuing a bit further, down the road, there'll be Diamond, Garnet and a Raven. Before entering the kitchen, there'll be a Gourmand at the door (two on higher difficulties). The area is narrow and can make maneuverability difficult, especially when facing Gourmand. A common strategy here, on higher difficulties, is to throw weapons at them to pick one by one.

The Kitchen[]

After the player enters a restaurant kitchen, there'll be two waves of enemies. First, Big Ben, Altets and Donovans (all wielding butcher's knives) and several Galsias and B.T.s (some of them wielding knives). A common strategy here is to throw a weapon inside the kitchen before entering, to bait Big Ben alone. After that more Galsias will appear, alongside Ravens and Condors.

If the player has unlocked the eel, fugu and/or chili in Survival Mode, holding up at the cooking pot at the right side of the screen will randomly spawn one of those items.

A common strategy to here, especially on higher difficulties, is to throw all weapons outside after clearing the two enemy waves inside the kitchen. This is done in order to deal with some of the enemy waves ahead before entering the dojo.

Path to the Dojo[]

After exiting the kitchen, the player will go down another narrow road, fighting Kevins and Dylans, then Ravens. Once the path is horizontal again, further ahead there'll be a Gourmand and a Big Ben (two on higher difficulties); as soon the player approaches they'll be flanked by more Ravens and Condors. This is where the weapon strategy mentioned previously come into play. By throwing weapons from a certain angle, the player can hit only one of the heavyweights and dispatch them individually. Alternatively, if the player has amassed several butcher's knives (up to five can be found on the kitchen), then can be thrown to hit all enemies in line, dealing massive damage and potentially killing one of more heavyweights.

Mini-Boss: Goro[]

Once the player defeats the wave and approaches the dojo's entrance, a short scene will play, introducing Goro (two will be present if playing on higher difficulties). An explosive barrel can be found at bottom left side of the screen, which the player can bait Goro into attacking it, dealing massive damage. Paying attention to Goro's stance is key to defeat him; if he spreads his arms, he'll counter any direct melee attack with a powerful punch; if pulls his arm back, he'll use a quick dash punch when in range.

Retro Mini-Boss: Yamato (Mania+ only)[]

If playing on Mania+, a red arcade cabinet will be located at the bottom right side of the screen before entering the dojo. Destroying it will spawn Yamato. It's strongly recommended to only break it after defeating one of the Goros, leaving one with a sliver of health, as Yamato is very fast and powerful, boasting various attacks that grant him invincibility frames, on top of a slashing attack that covers a huge distance. In addition, he can summon a clone of himself to attack; the clone can be identified by the afterimage that appears when he moves, as well by the smaller healthpool compared to Yamato.

Inside the Dojo[]

Once the player enters, they'll be facing gauntlets of fight, one per room. The first one will have several Galsias spawning from both sides of the screen, some of them will be wielding halberds and sais; the halberd-wielding ones are particularly dangerous due to high range and damage. The second room will have several Donovans and Altets, also spawning from both sides of the screen, some of them carrying katanas, lead pipes, baseball bats, and butcher's knives. It's highly recommend to pick one of those weapons and take it to the third, particularly a butcher's knife.

Mini-Boss: Pheasant[]

The third room is the most challenging, as it is smaller, and will have several Ravens, Condors, and the mini-boss Pheasant (two on Mania+). The latter is dangerous as his flying knee attack covers huge distance and deals high damage. Fortunately, a small portion with three apples can be found at the top middle side of the screen. If the player brought a butcher's knife, they can throw it as soon as the fight starts.

Boss: Shiva[]

On Mania+, Tatsu and Tora will appear once Shiva is at around 70% health.
